My first real foray into the world of photography came when I happened to spot a beautiful plane contrail against the setting sun. I raced out to find the best spot using the family “happy snapper”, and as luck would have it, ended up with a great shot. The photo made it onto the evening news and into the weather calendar.

Since that time, I’ve spent a bit of money and a lot of time working on my techniques, trying out different things and getting a better feel for how everything works and how to make the scene in my head match the one that comes out.

Recently I took up scuba diving — this opened up a whole new world of possibilities for photos. The first time I saw a jetty pylon covered in colourful sponges, I knew that it was a sight that I wanted to share with others. It didn’t take long for me to drop some more money on a dedicated underwater kit, and I haven’t looked back since. The photographic opportunities around South Australia have so far proved endless, from tiny fluorescent sea slugs to massive sunken wrecks.

My current camera kit has suited me well, and has slowly grown over the last few years. I started out with a Minolta Dynax SLR, but the delay between taking a photo and getting the film processed made it difficult for me to track how I was progressing. Once I moved to the Canon 350D, I knew I was set.

I hope you find something of interest here, and feel free to leave a comment or send an email if you care to.
